The Significance of Liska in Jewish History and Religion



From the 19th century, Liska has served as a focal point of Jewish community and tradition. Annually, thousands of pilgrims visit Liska, honoring Tzvi Hirsh Liska’s memory. Liska is home to over 500 Jewish heritage sites, from cemeteries to synagogues reflecting a long history. Close to 3,000 Jewish residents called Liska home by the late 1800s, creating a lively community. Liska’s heritage resonates in neighboring communities such as Kerestir and throughout Hungary. About 5,000 pilgrims and tourists visit Liska each year, drawn by its historical and spiritual atmosphere.
